From Underneath The Tree
Faulty

Jesus speaking, is quoted as saying this in the Bible, Matthew’s account…

1 “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

3 “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.

6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.”

Part of the great discourse known as the sermon on the mount, but the wisdom here has taken me to the limit this last week. I’ve heard this text somewhere in the neighborhood of a gazillion times, but this week it was these words that really got to me:

Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

Why don’t you judge? Why don’t you point out the faults of someone else when you have your own? Jesus take: You’re wasting your time. You’ve got bigger fish to fry and they’re sitting in your lake. The moment you forget, you’ll get bitten.

A good reminder that living with grace, gets me a lot further. Not that there aren’t moments when things should be brought to light, but it’s better to live giving grace away than to sit in a judgement seat, focused on my own personal adventure in missing the point.

Just thinking out loud, what do you think?
